Moratuwa university, TLM department which produce more
knowledgeable and talented professionals for job market in transport and
logistic field had organized the
English Immersion camp with purpose of enhance the 1st year
undergraduate’s soft skills and secondary language abilities. English
immersion camp was held on 4th week of August at new TLM auditorium
throughout the whole week. Gateway institute conducted this
immersion camp combining with JHONEKEELS Company with guidance of UOM.
Rather than doing same kind of activities done in English
camp, they got opportunity to do song with their own lyrics, own music and
dramas. Songs which done by team Hip Hop Hops was amazed by their resources providers so they could won large cake from them.
Debates took the major role in that week with proving mora spirit. Poster
competition illustrated their feeling, creativity and attitudes .Final day
talent show was a life time opportunity which they got to express their talents
to university, to country, to world. Spot speech was an ice breaker in that
program, not only that it was the most wonderful invent that in camp.
Instructor got great effort to develop students’ self-motivation and self-confident. I believed that it was
succeed.
So student realized
that Being language, it specially English –our second language leaves us with
no time to ponder the sentence that we are excepted to come up with and put
them into talk when we are engage in a conversation. Being a learner of second
language ,though it is considered organizing a sentence in your mind and
expressing within a short time is not as easy as dealing with your mother
language ,we are in the opinion that snag exists as long as you stay away from
the language. English immersion camp grew a great desire to stay with English
language. However as a result of that as a batch they have started spot speech
program to develop their skills further more.
